6.Stringing a Necklace
PHOTO 1 Sorting
Pearls bought at auctions are still a medley of various classes of pearls, even though they have already been sorted out.
The first step is to reject pearls of irregular luster and color, and the second step is to differentiate pearls according to colors; rose, white, yellow and blue.
PHOTO 2 Drilling
Marking the parts which have blotches and nicks, a pearl is fixed on a drilling machine.
A hole is bored using two drills from either end to get a clear-cut hole without damaging the pearls.
PHOTO 3 Stringing
Each necklace consists of pearls of the some quality called"matching"or "make",usually 5-10 strands are made simultaneously.
The pearls are switched from line to line match the pearl's color and harmonize each necklace.
PHOTO 4 Threading
In order to make a well-matched necklace, a necklace is made in two parallel lines to compare each pearl's quality before they are threaded into one necklace.
A needle threaded with silk is used for stringing pearls.
Careful attention must be given to the harmony of the pearls while stringing them and necklaces are strictly inspected before they are sold.
